2008 QAR Lab Open House a Big Success

This year's QAR open house on Saturday April 26th was extremely successful with over 600 people visiting the conservation lab in Greenville. DCR staff with assistance from ECU faculty and students put on a great show. Those who attended were a remarkably diverse group, who expressed great appreciation for the opportunity to see rare artifacts and learn first hand all that goes on during the QAR project. Most folks that came were from North Carolina, but visitors also sought us out from South Carolina, Mississippi, Missouri, Florida, and Tennessee.

The QAR conservation team Sarah Watkins-Kenney, Wendy Welsh, Shanna Daniels, Franklin Price, Myron Ralston, Adria Focht, Valerie Grussing (and husband Matt), Jonathan Schleier and former QAR employee, Eric Norgren (aka Blackbeard), deserve a tremendous amount of credit for pulling the event together. They received welcome support from Karen Browning (and friend Kellie Albus), Chris Southerly, Dave Moore, Richard Lawrence, Nathan Henry, and Sim Wilde. Special thanks goes to Dr. Larry Babits, Director of ECU's Maritime History Program, who manned the small arms display area.
