Within the sustenance classification are tableware items including ceramic bowls and jugs, glass bottles, and pewter flatware and utensils. Individuals could have used these or they may have served a broader purpose during corporate meals. Items of pewter, ceramic and glass, however, only partially represent sustenance activities since wooden bowls and boards, known as trenchers, were in common use aboard ships of the period. These wooden items are not likely to be represented due to deterioration.
