This ceramic piece is exhibits a buff to tan earthenware paste with small red-grog and fine-grain quartz tempering. The bottom is unglazed, while the top or interior is glazed with homogeneous deep green-colored lead glaze. This plate was made in the Saintonge region of southwestern France, based upon the identification of its distinctive flattened rim with tooled edge, shape, and overall green slip lead glaze. The general date range of manufacture for these specific wares is 1700 to 1750.
