The only eating utensil recovered so far is an incomplete pewter spoon, the end of its stem and about half the bowl missing. Its surface is uneven due to corrosion. The rats tail stem has a flat base and rounded upper surface and extends for c. 1 inch over the back of the spoon. Since this item was found in association with lead shot, gunflints and chips, it has been suggested that it might have been altered to serve as a powder scoop.
