The frame of one jaw harp was found on the 31CR314 Shipwreck
site but remains locked in concretion as shown in this x-radiography.
This represents the only musical instrument thus far recovered
from site. This small, pocketsize music-maker was called a trump
in the 1590s and was found in Ireland, England and Scotland. Among
Germans it was called a mouth drum or "maultommel'' and the
French described it as a "guimbarde". The instrument
had international appeal and was known in many lands and cultures.
