Shipboard life was a hazardous business and injuries and illness were common. This is demonstrated in the fact that Blackbeard conscripted the services of the three French surgeons when he captured Queen Anne's Revenge (ex. La Concorde). A variety of tools and medicines would have been part of the surgeon's kits, a few of which have been recovered from this site. The syringe and the ointment containers are French in origin.
