In addition to iron projectiles, large quantities of lead shot ranging from musket size to partridge were recovered from concretions, and areas of loose shot have been observed in situ. Unlike the iron shot that was found throughout the site, most of the lead shot was recovered from a relatively discrete area thought to be the after-most section of the ship, in the southern-most area of the site. Lead shot, though relatively easier to cast locally than iron shot, were commonly produced in Europe and shipped in bulk to the colonies. |
