Four pieces from at least two bilge pump strainers have
been recovered. These were made from a lead sheet perforated with semi-circular
or round holes and had flanges to enable them to wrap neatly around
the end of the wooden bilge tube. The strainer prevented debris from
entering the pumps that were used to remove water from the lowest parts
of the ship.
