Two bar-type shot are represented in the cannon ammunition assemblage, a 6-pounder double-headed shot and a 3-pounder hammer shot. These contrivances consisted of two identical parts (ball or disk) connected by an iron bar. They were used at close range to slash through the rigging and sails of an enemy ship.
