A somewhat normal fastening pattern exhibited on the hull structure was one spike and one treenail per plank/frame juncture, a pattern that alternated with each framing component. Numerous nails have been recovered in a concentrated area. They are likely contained in a wooden cask or box that has since deteriorated and available for shipboard repairs, or possibly as anti-personal shrapnel. Drift pins were used to fasten large timbers together.
