Spring 2001 Expedition Cannon C-22 recovery is the primary objective of this expedition, however, several other goals are also planned. These include the installation of a new datum just north of the main ballast pile, an assessment of exposed artifacts and features (namely the existing wood structure), labeling exposed artifacts, testing elevation methods from the new datum, and redeploying the site buoy. Several vessels will be on site during operations and many procedures will be occurring at the same time, so it is pertinent that a detailed protocol is established. During the expedition, Michael Plakos will administer diving and underwater operations. Nathan Henry will oversee underwater operations, and Wayne Lusardi will oversee topside operations during C-22 recovery on R/V Dan Moore. Julep Gillman-Bryan will serve as the Diving Safety Officer, and Mark Wilde-Ramsing will coordinate all other operations. Surface vessel arrangement: Mooring priority will be
given to R/V Shellpoint for all operations except during cannon
recovery when R/V Dan Moore has priority. Diving protocol: Detailed documentation of surface and
underwater operations is essential and , as a result, visibility underwater
must be preserved.
