Field Notes May 7 - 10, 2001

Tom Piner prepares buoy for redeployment.

Monday 5/7 blown out, remained on shore and set up datum/jet system equipment on Shellpoint. Cleaned off site buoy with Jim Dugan and Julep Gillman-Bryan and helped Tom Piner and Rocky Best prepare new chain for buoy redeployment. Met at IMS for a briefing and discussed dive plan and objectives.

 

 

 

Tuesday 5/8, embarked on Shellpoint with several crewmembers to locate and expose site buoy mooring blocks. Attached mooring buoys to blocks and also pile marker buoy. Excavated and prepared C-22 for recovery.

Wednesday 5/9, prepared C-22 for recovery by attaching lift bags and shackles. Recovered C-22 to RV Dan Moore when media and guests arrived.

John Masters

5/10, John Masters and Dugan located site buoy mooring block and marked it with a marker buoy. Returned to MF dock to help load buoy. Returned to site and redeployed site buoy. Moored over site and installed new site datum with Richard Lawrence. Gillman-Bryan took photographs of u/w operations, Dugan topside operations, and the ballast pile for comparative purposes to reveal changes in site conditions. Pulled down site mooring buoys when finished.
