Project Partners

The Queen Anne's Revenge Project is a cooperative effort led by the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources that seeks to investigate, interpret and preserve the remains of the Blackbeard's flagship.

In doing so, the project helps historians paint a better picture of the Colonial period in North Carolina by shedding light on the wider political and economic systems of the time. The project would not be possible without the contributions of many partners:

Under Water Archaeology Branch of the NC Office of State Archaeology The Underwater Archaeology Branch is part of the North Carolina Office of State Archaeology. The Branch manages the state's underwater cultural resources by investigating and documenting underwater archaeological sites and maintaining records on more than 5,000 historically documented shipwrecks and other water-related topics.
North Carolina Maritime Museum in Beaufort The North Carolina Maritime Museum in Beaufort offers a taste of coastal cultures and maritime history. Exhibits feature the state’s rich seafood industry, life-saving stations and lighthouses and sailboats and motorboats. The Museum is the official repository for artifacts recovered from Blackbeard’s Queen Anne’s Revenge.
Nautilus Video Productions Nautilus Productions has obtained underwater footage of the infamous pirate Blackbeard's ship throughout the project, and it may license the use of its stock footage.
North Carolina Marine Fisheries The North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries, part of the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources, is dedicated to ensuring sustainable marine and estuarine fisheries and habitats for the benefit and health of the people of North Carolina.
East Carolina University East Carolina University is one of the 17 consituent campuses of the Univerity of North Carolina system. Located in Greenville, N.C., ECU has one of the leading maritime history and underwater achaeology programs in the nation and hosts the QAR Conservation Lab.
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration enriches life through science. NOAA's services include daily weather forecasts, severe storm warnings, climate monitoring, fisheries management and coastal restoration and are all designed to support marine commerce.
National Marine Sanctuaries The National Marine Sanctuaries serve as the trustee for the nation's system of marine protected areas, to conserve, protect, and enhance their biodiversity, ecological integrity and cultural legacy. The Sancutaries are part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
National Marine Sanctuary Foundation The National Marine Sanctuary Foundation is a private non-profit organization that was created to assist the federally-managed National Marine Sanctuary Program with education and outreach programs designed to preserve, protect and promote the nation's marine sanctuaries.
